What a small family business can be great at

Healthy Dog was developed and launched in 2012 by Arthur and Cheryl Francken. Arthur and Cheryl had been working in the industry for years before that. They believed things could be done differently, and better: good pet food should receive the attention our four-legged friends deserve. Their passion for animals led Arthur and Cheryl to develop a naturally healthy dog ​​food, with natural ingredients and no artificial additives. This good food promotes a strong constitution and helps prevent common ailments. Since then, Healthy Dog has built a loyal fan base and customers worldwide!

    We've been together since 1996 and married in 2006. Our old Kelly brought our rings down the aisle on a cushion. That's symbolic; animals are a part of everything we do. Cheryl regularly brings home injured or abandoned (wild) animals. Arthur helps build new cages and enclosures where they can recover and head towards a better life.

    Together, we started our wholesale business selling dog food in 2005. In 2012, we focused entirely on our own brand with our own recipe: Healthy Dog. Healthy Cat was developed in 2018.

  • Knowledge of the trade

    Cheryl has worked in the industry for over 25 years, working for various dog food manufacturers. Trained as a Veterinary Naturopath, she has extensive experience with (the development of) dog food, dogs with (nutritional) problems, and dog owners and breeders.

    Cheryl is responsible for product development, marketing, customer contact, and daily sales. Arthur worked for over 23 years as a warehouse manager and buyer. He uses his extensive experience for daily purchasing, distribution, logistics, and (financial) administration. Together, they are responsible for Belgium and the Netherlands and collaborate with importers in various other countries to create happy dogs and owners there too!

Our Healthy Dog Mission

  • If you've been in the industry for a long time, you realize that commercialism often takes over. All too often, this comes at the expense of quality. Of the product, the food, and ultimately, even the dog's life.

    Following our passion for healthy, happy animals, we've developed a completely new food. Natural and (wheat) gluten-free, made with our own recipe: Healthy Dog.

  • Your dog's well-being is our top priority. That's why we use only natural ingredients and pure raw materials. All ingredients used in Healthy Dog are subject to the same quality standards as products intended for human consumption. Naturally, Healthy Dog doesn't use ingredients known to cause allergies in dogs, such as wheat gluten or mixed meat proteins. We also avoid animal testing, artificial additives, or substances such as chemical antioxidants (Ethoxyquin, BHT, and/or BHA) and preservatives.

  • We also contribute to sustainability, including solar panels on our warehouses, packaging made from recycled plastic and FSC-certified paper, electric cars, and so on.
