  • Explanation of the nutritional schedule

The recommended amounts in the feeding schedule are a guideline. Healthy Dog advises you to always pay attention to your dog's condition. The amounts listed depend greatly on your dog's individual needs, age, condition, and level of activity.

  • Explanation of target weight

For an adult dog, use the target weight in the table, not just the current weight. The amounts listed are per day and should be divided over several meals. We recommend at least two meals per day for an adult dog, four for seniors and puppies. Pregnant and lactating females eat two to four times a day as needed.

  • Important

    • Always provide clean, fresh drinking water.
    • Store the bag in a cool, dry place . Once opened, leave the bag unsealed.
    • Always consult a veterinarian if you have any doubts about your dog's health!

Check what type of food you are currently feeding

One piece is not the same as another
There are two distinct types of kibble on the market: pressed and extruded (expanded). Due to their different digestibility properties, mixing them is not recommended.

Unsure whether you're feeding pressed or extruded kibble? It's easy to test whether you're feeding pressed or extruded kibble. Place a handful of kibble in a glass of water. If the kibble absorbs and floats (=high in the stomach), then the kibble is extruded . If the kibble slowly dissolves and sinks to the bottom (=low in the stomach), then it's pressed kibble. This also immediately visualizes the process in the stomach.

When feeding (frozen) fresh meat, you can continue to use “pressed kibble” when switching over, as this has the same digestive system.

Check what you should pay attention to if you want to switch

Want the best for your dog? Then start with a delicious, honest diet! Healthy Dog is incredibly tasty and has a high acceptance rate.

Changing dog food can be done in different ways
This depends on the food you're currently feeding and/or whether your dog has any issues. Check what food your dog is currently eating (extruded, pressed, fresh meat, canned, etc.). Are you already feeding pressed food, (frozen) fresh meat, or extruded food? Are there any additional conditions, such as skin and/or digestive issues?

From pressed food and/or (frozen) fresh meat:
You can switch gradually or immediately. Mixing is no problem because your dog has the same digestive system.

From extruded chunk:
We advise you to switch over in one go, so without mixing.

Does your dog currently have a skin and/or digestive problem?
We recommend fasting your dog on the first day. Your dog can drink as much as needed. You shouldn't feed any food, including (human) treats. On the second day, feed half the usual amount. From the third day onward, you can feed the usual amount (see feeding schedule).

    Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why is Healthy Dog wheat gluten-free?

Through years of experience, we have established that wheat in dog food adds nothing but problems. It is increasingly common for a dog to have a wheat gluten allergy and/or to develop one (or worse). To counteract this, we do not use wheat in our food, because we believe that (besides the potential health problems) it does not belong in healthy natural dog food!

Which variant is best for my dog?

We normally always recommend Healthy Dog Regular to all dogs, "unless"...

Sometimes the dog (possibly temporarily) needs something different, or we as owners want to vary. Healthy Dog Regular is complete, natural, and therefore suitable for all types of dogs. All breeds, every gender, and every size. This is because (just like in nature) it contains all the natural ingredients necessary for a healthy dog and is fully complete. If we look at nature and compare the dog with its ancestor, the wolf, you don't have puppy rabbits, senior deer, or light wild boars for wolves! However, we as humans have created some problems and/or differences. That's why Healthy Dog has developed different variations.

Healthy Dog Puppy has exactly the same ingredients as Healthy Dog Regular. The difference is that fats and proteins have been slightly increased (the food priority) and Calcium (and Phosphorus) have been slightly reduced to prevent muscle cramping. Especially for large, fast-growing breeds. In addition, the kibble is also pressed smaller in the 5 kg packaging. This makes it easier for smaller breeds to eat. So nothing different, but processed in a different way.

The Healthy Dog Sport variant also has the same ingredients as the Regular. The fats and proteins have been significantly increased, so you get more energy with less food. Especially for dogs that need more but you don't want to overfeed. This can be because the dog is very active. However, it's also for dogs that eat poorly, are pregnant or lactating, or are recovering after, for example, surgery. So for all dogs that might temporarily need a little extra.

Healthy Dog Chicken & Rice has been specially developed for dogs that have been tested for a beef protein problem or for owners who like to vary flavors.

The Healthy Dog Probiotics variant, in addition to the Prebiotics found in all variants, is supplemented with Probiotics. These are live, natural bacteria that promote gut flora and immunity. Ideal when the dog could use extra resistance, has had an antibiotic course, or needs extra support for stomach and/or intestinal problems. Also highly recommended when switching from extruded kibble to Healthy Dog's pressed kibble!

The newest variant, Wild Menu, is completely grain, gluten, and potato-free, making it extremely suitable for (allergy) sensitive dogs! With a high content of wild boar as the sole animal protein source, healthy vegetables, fruit, and herbs, it mimics a wild diet. With Prebiotics and Probiotics to promote immunity and gut flora, and Glucosamine and Chondroitin for strong, flexible muscles and joints. Salmon oil provides omega 3 and 6 fatty acids.

Can I mix Healthy Dog with my current food?

No, I'd rather not. Mixing food is usually recommended when switching, but this almost always refers to switching from one extruded brand to another. Extruding often involves adding a fat at the end of the process to make the kibble smell/taste palatable. (You can feel this when you run your hand through the bag.) When you switch kibble, you also switch fats. This is one of the reasons mixing is often recommended, so the manufacturer can be sure the dog will like the new kibble. Healthy Dog dog food is pressed and therefore has a very high acceptance rate. Moreover, the ingredients are so natural that the dog can even smell them separately. So, we don't need fat to make the kibble palatable, and the dog will happily eat it as is. As you may have read on the website, extruded kibble digests very differently (high in the stomach) than pressed kibble and (frozen) meat (low in the stomach). Mixing these two different digestion methods makes it more difficult for your dog.

Healthy Dog also contains no preservatives or synthetic fragrances, colors, or flavors that many foods do. The beauty of Healthy Dog is that the food is so natural that it cleanses the body of accumulated waste. This is most effective when you don't mix Healthy Dog or feed it with (frozen) fresh meat. The Probiotics variant can be used in addition if your dog needs extra help transitioning. The addition of probiotics boosts immunity and promotes healthy gut flora!
